Contemporary Training in Shamanic Spirituality for Personal and Planetary Transformation

Dear Sister or Brother,

It is an honor to welcome you as a potential member of the Turtle-Heart School of Shamanic Spirituality.  Our hope and prayer is that the teachings and practices presented will assist you in your spiritual walking. 

The mission of the School is to encourage, support, and assist you to:

• Deepen your spiritual walking in the shamanic way
• Bring forth the inner mystic and shamanic practitioner within you
• Foster awe of the mysteries
• Celebrate the folk-art of worship, and
• Learn to serve as an agent of Sacred Blessings

Training in our School is delivered by way of a series of interactive Knowledge and Practice Papers.  In these Papers, we enter into a spiritual apprenticeship-like process where we will exchange reflections on a variety of shamanic topics outlined later on this page.  This is the only required level of study and practice for membership although several books are also recommended.

The intention of the teachings and practices shared in the Knowledge Papers is to encourage and support your spiritual life and practice; to help you evoke wisdom from within yourself; and apply what you have learned and experienced in a life of service on the Great Path.

The teachings, practices, and rites of the Turtle-Heart School are grounded in living, universal, interior spiritual forces whose exterior forms evolve and adapt to ever-changing conditions.  Spiritual Principles are not bound by precedence.  No outer form is permanent.  The stream of Light and Life flows endlessly from one form to another.  Thus, the Turtle-Heart School is conservative as to Principles and progressive as to forms.

The vision of the School is grounded in a core set of contemplations or seed thoughts (not required articles of faith) which you are encouraged but not required to consider. 

• Supreme Creator or Great Spirit is the Source of everything that is, everything that was, and everything that will be.  Great Spirit is in all and all is in Great Spirit. 

• The Sun is our symbolic "Father" and the Earth is our symbolic "Mother."

• We embrace and emphasize a creation-centered view grounded in the concept of Original Blessing rather than original sin.

• Everything is interconnected in a Living Energy Field.  Everything is alive and conscious.  In everything is a younger or older sister/brother.

• Life is a Sacred Ritual.  Life is the Goal.  Life is the Path.  Life is the Teaching.  There is nothing to get, but there is something to remember.  We are a Divine Spark in essence.  Each person is a Sun--a spirit covered by a body.

• We believe that on the Sacred Journey, the experience of others can serve as a guide, but only as a guide.  Those who answer the Divine Call must rediscover for themselves the trails leading to the Path and begin their ascent of the Holy Mountain into deeper communion with Great Spirit.   Each spiritual climber must make their own way to the Cave of the Heart.  Here, in this Holy Place not made with hands, the Spirit of Cosmic Wisdom Herself or the Inner Shaman awaits joyful re-discovery and blissful reunion.  Trembling with anticipation, She responds eagerly to our yearning, deep study, prayer, meditation, and above all selfless service. 

• We honor all spiritual expressions of the Great Path.  We acknowledge that ours is but one way, not the only way.  As Western mystics who practice shamanic spirituality, we ourselves honor the pre-Christian Cosmic Christ (Cosmic Wisdom) and accept the historical Master Jesus--Jeshua ben Miriam, as one of our spiritual elder brothers.  We view the Divinity that manifested in him as differing in development, but not in quality, from that which is latent in each one of us.  For us, he is one of the Great Examples, not the exception.

• Gnosis or knowing is the fruit of wise experience.
