Templum de Octo Rosae Mysticus

the Rose of the Magus

In the Gospel of Mathew the story of the visit of the Magi to the Son of Light is recounted.  Said to have been the inheritors of a secret wisdom, they offered their gifts of frankincense, gold, and myrrh.  Legend has it these three gifts were brought out of Paradise by the Archangels Raphael, Michael, and Gabriel and given to Adam and Eve.  Bequethed to Seth, they were then passed down through succeeding generations, carried by Noah in the Ark and then by his sons, Ham, Japheth, and Shem, the ancestors of the Three Magi.

The focus of the Magi is revealing the Mysteries of the Son of Light.  The Great Work of the Magi is seen as the Redemption and raising and of all beings to full awareness of Life, Light, and Love.

The work of Redemption requires the loving union of two wills--Divine Will and human will.  It is service rendered to that which is above and to that which is below which constitutes the legitamacy of sacred magic.  In sacred magic, the Magus assumes the role of the last link in the magical chain which descends from above in order to serve as the terrestial point of contact and point of concentration for the operation conceived, willed, and put into action from above.
